where to head for a ride

Our shop is in a little village called Hope, in the Peak District.  We're right in prime mountain bike country, with classic riding areas such as Mam Tor, Ladybower and Cut gate within riding distance of our door.

We all live in Sheffield, which many would class as the UK mountain bike city of choice - plenty within the city boundaries and easy links to the Peak District. It's hard to fault and is where many of our regular customers are based too.

The Peak District is split loosely into 2 main areas, the limestone White Peak and gritstone Dark Peak.  We're almost at the join, but in what most would consider the Dark Peak.  Think rocky, gritty and moorland tracks for the Dark Peak - grassier, more rolling hills and fields in the White.  They're both massive generalisations though!

The Peak District sees a lot of traffic and there are certainly areas to avoid when the weather's been wet.  We work with Peak District MTB and Ride Sheffield to promote sensible riding, please check the Facebook pages of each group for problem spots if you're heading to ride here.  The Keeper of the Peak twitter feed is spot on for this too - with riders tweeting trail conditions as they ride.

We stock OS maps and guide books from local firm Vertebrate - and we have a big map on the wall in the shop.  If you're in the area and stuck for ideas, call in and we can happily offer some suggestions!
