Steel City DH 2025

Locals and shop regulars may know that we're involved in quite a lot behind the scenes in Sheffield, with Si working as part of Ride Sheffield to manage and maintain various riding spots in and around the city.  Linked to this, he's also part of the small team that organises Peaty's Steel City DH at Greno Woods.

It's fondly described as "the biggest little race" - a welcoming and inclusive downhill race, with huge support from locals and riders alike.  A massive crowd lines the course, giving folks the rare opportunity to race with the additional pressure that brings - dropping into the bombhole at the finish to big cheers!

For 2025, the team partnered with another local group, Peak Gravel Gang, to help encourage more women and girls to race.  With food, drink and marshal help provided by Ride Sheffield, Peak Gravel gang ran a Skill share session on a closed track at Greno.  This gave riders who were unsure whether the race was right for them to have a go - without the pressure of crowds, just a supportive and helpful group of like minded riders!

What's that got to do with 18 Bikes?  Well, we helped out on that skills day as well as the race organisation and setup - but also joined forces to share a stall space at the race with Peak Gravel gang!  We displayed our latest prototype bike and also provided a space for riders to hang out, share hints and discuss ride plans and ideas with Peak Gravel Gang.  The work stand, tools and pump got a fair bit of use too!

Peak Gravel Gang's post here gives a great overview!

On the louder side of things, shop mechanic Sam and his mates came with their sound system Bosun Sound, partnering with 200 Pound Sound to bring tunes and commentary further up the hill as well as in the bombhole.  The first time we've managed that and it sounded great!

And to finish on a real positive, shop friend and Ride Sheffield helper extraordinaire Pat Horscroft once again raced once again, this time at 82 years young!  Also known as Granny McGnarly, Pat embodies the spirit of the race - a true local legend.  This reel is guaranteed to make you smile!
